Dr. Jacqui was born in South Africa. She moved to Colorado in 1996 after living in California. When she first saw the Rocky Mountains, she knew this was where she had to live to be closer to nature, after the mayhem and traffic of LA. She learned to mountain bike, ski, snowshoe, camp, and hike – her favorite activity continues to be riding her mountain or road bike up steep hills, she loves the views and the meditative space it affords.
Dr. Slavin is passionate about Functional Medicine’s comprehensive perspective on evaluating the underlying cause of disease, rather than focusing on the symptoms. Dr. Slavin’s personal, and family illnesses found no solutions or relief from traditional medicine. In an effort to help both herself and others who found no remedy with conventional treatment options, and sought answers through Functional Medicine’s diverse investigation into lifestyle, genetic and environmental contributions to disease.
Dr. Slavin has a dual degree in Economics and Psychology from the University of California San Diego, and Doctorate of Chiropractic from New York Chiropractic College in upstate New York.
Dr. Slavin has extensive training in Functional Medicine from more than 7 national and international organizations and has studied with some of the fathers of Functional Medicine including Dr. Mark Hyman, Dr. Jeff Bland, Dr. Joel Evans, as well as pioneers in the field of Functional Endocrinology, Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis, and other topics in the field including – Genetic / Personalized Lifestyle Medicine – SNPs especially MTHFR genetic mutations, and environmental medicine, and their role in autoimmune conditions, preconception planning and infertility.
