Dr. Slavin was born in South Africa and moved to America with her whole family in 1987.
When she first saw the Rocky Mountains, (that felt like a hug from the Universe) she knew this was where she had to be.
Dr. Slavin has lived Colorado since 1996 and has been practicing in Colorado since 2008.
Dr. Slavin is passionate about Functional Medicine’s comprehensive perspective on evaluating the underlying mechanisms of illness. Functional medicine seeks to enhance and restore proper function, rather than merely focusing on reducing or suppressing symptoms. Dr. Slavin has been referred to as “Inspector Gadget meets Beautiful Mind” as she thoroughly investigates every facet, and loves to decipher patterns in lifestyle factors, symptoms and lab results.
Dr. Slavin’s personal, and family health challenges found no solutions or relief from traditional medicine. In an effort to help both herself, and others, who found no remedy from conventional treatment options, the multi-layered approach afforded by Functional Wellness provides the foundation for the diverse investigation into lifestyle, genetic and environmental contributions to illness.
Dr. Slavin holds Doctorate of Chiropractic from New York Chiropractic College, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude honors. She also has a dual degree in Economics and Psychology from the University of California San Diego, where she graduated with Summa Cum Laude honors
Dr. Slavin has extensive training in Functional Medicine from more than 7 national and international organizations and has studied with some of the founders of Functional Medicine including Dr. Mark Hyman, Dr. Jeff Bland, Dr. Joel Evans, Dr. David Perlmutter and Dr. Joe Pizzorno; as well as pioneers in the field of Functional Endocrinology, and Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis.
Other areas of expertise in the field include: Genetic / Personalized Lifestyle Medicine, genetic variations (sometimes called mutations ) (SNPs) – especially those related to the Methylation Cycle – MTHFR, COMT, CBS, MTR/R, NOS, VDR, and ACE2. Other genes associated with Cardiometabolic function and risk factors, as well as neurodegeneration such as the APOE gene’s role in Alzheimer’s Disease, Familial Hyper-cholesterol and Hyper-lipidemia.
